It has everything a Nancy Drew game ought to have - an intriguing story, interesting characters, lovely sets, good music, moments that get your heart pounding, and plenty of German lore (including Brothers Grimm stories) woven into the plot. Overall, I'm giving "The Captive Curse" 5 out of 5 stars. Other players may well find this one easier and shorter than I did. This is totally fine by me - as long as I can still solve it (which hasn't been a problem with any games so far), the harder the better! Of course, this is just me. I found this game a little harder than the average Nancy Drew game, and it took me several days to solve it. There are, however, a few instances that definitely made me jump. I didn't find this the scariest game I've played (Ghost of Thornton Hall, Shadow at the Water's Edge, Curse of Blackmoor Manor, and Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake were the scariest in my opinion). This game is considered a "scary game" due to monster sightings. I personally found the suspects in this game quite fascinating, and there are enough clues that I was able to guess the villain without it being too easy. The castle and the forest are a little confusing to get around in at first, but I figured it out pretty quickly. Like all the Nancy Drew games, "The Captive Curse" involves exploring different areas and questioning suspects. The owner of the castle asks Nancy to come to Germany to investigate, but she soon finds that she may well be following in the footsteps of the girls who were whisked away by the monster years ago. However, there is a slight problem - the monster has been sighted. The game is set in a German castle which is preparing for an annual celebration - a celebration of the fact that the legendary monster that supposedly plagued the castle in centuries past. I have enjoyed all of them, but "The Captive Curse" was especially enjoyable, in my opinion. I've played all but the newest of the Nancy Drew games. And I added categories for spring and autumn, too, so now you can keep playing all year round! I did not look at these bundles before making my selections, instead choosing to categorize the games in the way I thought best. The company behind the games, HeR Interactive, encourages this to an extent, making “winter” and “summer” game bundles available for purchase. If you, too, would like to (re)play these wonderfully detailed and educational Nancy Drew games, you could play them in order, or you could shake things up by playing according to season - the games aren’t so tightly connected that you’ll get too confused this way, I promise. And until then, I can replay the thirty-plus existing games whenever the mood strikes. Since then, there has only been one game released, but I live in hope that more are on the way. From the time I discovered them circa 2000 until 2015, two games were released every year, one in winter and one in summer.
